MangaManga, illustration and photography. Stories born from an image; worlds brought to life in the details.
Two disciplines in conversation: drawing the world and learning to look at it.

I'm Mattéo Burle, known as Matteyoshi — 真天吉. Based in Tokyo, I work at the intersection of manga, illustration and photography. I am drawn to the stories held in a place, a gesture or a passing light.
Film taught me pacing and framing; drawing taught me to build worlds; photography taught me to observe the ones already here. This portfolio brings these perspectives together — from early studies to finished images, imaginary places to moments captured on film.
A few images, many ways of telling a story.
PORTRAIT / TOKYO · FRANCEA French manga artist and illustrator in Tokyo, I want places to feel just as alive as the people who inhabit them.
After three years in the Professional Manga program at Human Academy Europe in Angoulême (2021–2024), I continued my creative journey in Japan. My work includes storyboards and backgrounds for ASTRAL, a collaborative French manga alongside writer Nicolas Asdaris and character artist Ed Arya.
I also take photographs — Japanese streets, landscapes encountered along the way, details most people walk past. Working with film has opened another way of exploring light, time and the unexpected. These pictures feed directly back into my drawings.
Let’s work togetherI photograph cities and their quiet moments. Now I’m also discovering the pace of film: every frame is a choice, every wait a surprise.
Digital images now sit alongside 35 mm film. I'll gradually share new rolls, their locations and the stories behind them — a photographic travel journal in the making.
